Limmud Mallorca – Pre Pesach Seder
Limmud Mallorca - Pre Pesach Seder
On Sunday, April 21st, amidst a backdrop of global conflict and cultural tension, a vibrant gathering of 92 participants from the Mediterranean region convened for a Multicultural and Interfaith Sunday Seder in Palma, Mallorca.
The event, held at the picturesque Can Bustan in the Illes Balears, aimed to foster unity and understanding among diverse cultures and religions. This gathering was a testament to the power of community and the importance of coming together in times of uncertainty.
The attendees included participants from various cultural and religious backgrounds, highlighting the event's broad appeal and significance.
The diverse group engaged in a series of enriching activities that blended tradition with modern relevance. Participants were asked to bring items and stories that represented freedom or evoked childhood memories, which they shared with the group, fostering a deep sense of connection and reflection.
Adding a unique dimension to the Seder, student researchers from the Basque Culinary Center joined the organisational team as part of a research project on the Seder ritual and its impact on community, health and wellbeing. Participants were invited to fill out a survey to aid in this research, further enriching the event with a scholarly perspective.
Hosts Shaul and Gullu warmly welcomed everyone, emphasizing respect for the natural surroundings. Attendees were reminded to enjoy the lush environment responsibly, ensuring the beauty of Can Bustan was preserved for future gatherings.
In light of the recent conflicts in Israel and ongoing tensions worldwide, this event was particularly poignant. It provided a much-needed space for reflection, dialogue, and the celebration of multiculturalism. The guiding principle of "Enabling Connections" was central to the day's activities, fostering meaningful interactions among diverse participants.
As we reflect on this successful gathering, we are committed to continuous improvement and look forward to future events that continue to enable connections, foster interfaith dialogue, and celebrate our shared humanity.
